Welcome to the

Northwestern Ontario Catholic Newspaper


The official "good news" paper of the Diocese of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada is published Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec./Jan., Feb., March, April/May & June. A much smaller newspaper, containing no ads, is published in mid-summer.

Story Submissions

The Northwestern Ontario Catholic Newspaper invites unsolicited news stories, opinion pieces and letters to the editor. We are especially interested in news stories concerning local events at Catholic parishes, schools, organizations or health care institutions. Opinion pieces should deal with issues of interest to Catholics. All submissions should include author's name, address, telephone number, etc. The editor reserves the right to edit stories for grammar, length, factual correctness and moral appropriateness. Publication is subject to approval of the editor.

Writing style should be clear and directed at a general readership.

Recommended lengths

  • News stories (events): 150 - 400 words
  • News features (analysis): 750 - 1,000 words
  • Profiles in faith: 400 - 1,000 words
  • Opinion pieces: 600 - 1,000 words
  • Letters to the editor: 50 - 300 words

Advertising

  • Most widely read church paper in the region.

The Northwestern Ontario Catholic Newspaper is a high quality professionally produced publication that is eight pages long. Our readership is estimated at 24,000. The paper is given free of charge at Catholic churches and schools. Most priests insert the paper into church bulletins that parishioners take home.

  • Spreading Good News

Your advertising will be associated with the Good News message of our publication. NWOC focuses on positive news in our churches, schools and community. The focus is on people helping people.

  • Affordable advertising

We offer you a low-cost effective option. Compare our rates, service and quality. With only eight pages, and intentionally a low number of ads compared to most newspapers, your ad is sure to be noticed.

  • Be a part of a limited sponsor group

We will sell the equivalent of one page of advertising and no more. We will encourage advertisers to sign on for at least one year by offering them one month free! We expect our space to sell out quickly, so come on board.
