MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, THE MOST REV. PIERRE GOUDREAULT, ON THE COLLECTION FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH IN CANADA
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
The Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will take place on 26 and 27 September 2026. Each year, this collection gives Catholics in every parish an opportunity to support the shared mission of the Church in our country. When you give, your offering begins in your parish but does not end there. It strengthens the mission of your diocese or eparchy and helps sustain the common work of the Bishops of Canada through the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). In this way, Catholics in communities across the country support one another in a truly shared mission.
Through this common support, the Bishops of Canada are able to undertake work that no single diocese or eparchy could accomplish alone. Your generosity helps families pass on the faith, provides resources to children, young people, and parishes for evangelization and catechesis, strengthens the Church’s welcome and accompaniment of migrants and refugees, supports people who are suffering or vulnerable, and promotes respect for human life and the dignity of every person.
National initiatives make this shared mission visible. The annual National Family and Life Week provides practical resources to help families, children, youth and parishes grow in faith and share the Gospel. The newly launched CCCB Service for Migrant and Refugee Ministry (Human Mobility) will strengthen the ability of dioceses, eparchies, and Catholic communities to welcome and accompany newcomers. These are concrete examples of what becomes possible when Catholics generously unite in service of the whole Church.
This collection is more than a local offering; it is an expression of communion and shared responsibility. Catholics not only support the mission of their own dioceses and eparchies, but join with believers across the country to carry forward this shared mission. Whatever the size of your gift, it helps strengthen the Church locally and makes it possible to carry out the work of the mission from coast to coast.
“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God,
serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”
1 Peter 4:10
