Reading Plan for An Ever-Deepening Prayer Life
This reading plan for deepening one’s prayer life by Dan Burke, was in a Monday Memo 3 years ago. Because we have many new subscribers, I thought it would be good to send it out again.
The list begins with works that Dan believes every Catholic should read, including part four of the Catechism on prayer and Fr. Thomas Dubay’s book, Prayer Primer. He believes these two books will “provide the foundational elements to understanding prayer in the authentic tradition of the Church.” Reading these works will provide the surest protection from the false teachings on prayer. Continuing down the list he gives titles that will be meaningful at each stage of spiritual growth: Purgative, Illuminative and Unitive. This list is not exhaustive, but it is certain to keep a person busy for a few years. All of these selections are available in the Adult Faith Formation Library at the Pastoral Centre. Please come in and browse the library as well as the many books and gift items we have available.
[Editors Note: Dan missed an important work on his slide that he highly recommends – The Fulfillment of All Desire by Ralph Martin.]
