Statement of Purpose

The Office of Worship assists the Bishop as the principal liturgist of the Diocese; to lead the faithful to full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgical life of the Church; through liturgical education, formation, and celebration. The Office for Worship is a resource for Diocesan parishes, schools, offices and institutions with respect to music, sacramental celebrations, devotional practices and liturgical formation.

  • To standardize the Liturgies in all parishes of the Diocese that are being carried out according to the (GIRM) General Instruction To The Roman Missal.
  • Planning and coordinating Liturgical Music workshops yearly or bi-yearly to support the various music ministers in parishes for ongoing formation and education.
  • To facilitate and coordinate Diocesan liturgical celebrations
  • Assist in providing liturgical education and formation for parish liturgical ministers, coordinators and committees. (readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters, Altar Servers,  Environment ministers, music ministers, etc)
  • Maintain a current listing of parish liturgical and music ministers.
  • Establish and maintain a resource centre of liturgical texts, pamphlets, audio, music and environment materials, etc.

This is an email contact list of music ministers in the Diocese of Thunder Bay. It serves as a network for music ministers within the Diocese. Please send an email to worship@dotb.ca to be added to the list.

National Council for Liturgical Music
This is Canada’s national council which advises the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy on matters of sacred music.

National Association of Pastoral Musicians
The National Association of Pastoral Musicians fosters the art of musical liturgy. The members of NPM serve the Catholic Church as musicians, clergy, liturgists and other leaders of prayer.

Oregon Catholic Press (OCP)
Offers various hymnals to parishes. It also has online liturgy resources and licensing for parish events. OCP is the publisher of Glory & Praise, Journeysongs, Spirit & Song, as well as the Graduale Romanum among many others.

GIA Publications, Inc.
Offers various liturgical music resources to parishes: hymnals, sheet music, licensing, and more. GIA publishes the popular Gather hymnal among others.
